Cheery Cabled Headband

Cheery Cabled Headband

This headband is an intermediate-level knit project. You should be able to knit, purl and make cables, either with a cable needle or without, before starting. I prefer to make cables without the cable needle, since I find it tends to get in the way, but the pattern is written as if you were using one. The final headband has a width of about 8 cm (3 1/4 inches) and a diameter of 23 cm (9 inches).

This headband is designed to fit an average adult, and please make sure you check your gauge before you start to make sure that it fits properly once you're finished. If you want to change the size of the headband, just add or take away rows from the non-cabled section.
You will need:
  • 30 g worsted weight yarn
  • 4 mm knitting needles
  • Cable needle
  • Yarn needle
Abbreviations:
  • K - knit
  • P - purl
  • Cn - cable needle
  • C3L - Cable three left - Move the next two sts to the cn and hold in front. P1, then K2 from the cn
  • C3R - Cable three right - Move the next st to the cn and hold in the back. K2, then P1 from the cn
  • Left Cross - Move the next two sts to the cn and hold in the front. K2, then K2 from the cn
  • Right Cross - Move the next two sts to the cn and hold in the back. K2, than K2 from the cn
Gauge:
Cast on 8 sts and work 8 rows in 2x2 (K2, P2) ribbing. This should measure 5 cm by 3 cm, or 2 inches by 1 1/4 inches.
Pattern:
Long tail cast on 22, leaving a long tail to use to sew the headband once it's done.

Non-Cabled Section:
(Row 1) (K2, P2) five times, K2
(Row 2) (P2, K2) five times, P2
Repeat rows 1-2 four more times.
