Rainbow Scarf Crochet Pattern

Rainbow Scarf Crochet Pattern

This scarf is worked lengthwise, and took me about 5 hours to complete. This is an intermediate-level project, but beginners should also be able to make it, since it isn't too complicated. I used different colors to help make the different stitches stand out, but it would also look good in one color if you want.

My scarf ended up having a length of about 229 cm (7 and half feet) excluding the fringe, and is 15 cm (6 inches) wide. If you want a different length, just change the number of starting chains that you use.
You will need:
  • 6 mm crochet hook
  • About 175 g total of worsted weight yarn in different colors (red, orange, yellow, purple, off-white and black)
Abbreviations:
  • sc - single crochet
  • hdc - half-double crochet
  • dc - double crochet
  • bobble st - (yo, insert hook into the stitch and pull up a loop, then pull this loop through the first loop on the hook) repeat two more times. Then yo and pull this loop through all the loops that are left on the hook.
  • sl st - slip stitch
  • ch - chain
Note: this pattern is written using US crochet terms.
Pattern:
Using red:
(Row 1) Ch an even number of sts, until you reach the length that you would like the scarf to be. Ch 1 extra and turn. For the scarf shown, I used 242 chains.
(Row 2) Sc in the second ch from the hook. (ch 1, skip one ch and sc 1 in the next chain) across.
Fasten off the red.

Using orange:
Attach yarn one of the edges and ch 2. Then flip the scarf so that you are working into the starting chains again. This will give the scarf matching edges on both sides.
(Row 3) (Bobble st in the next ch space, and ch 1) across.
Fasten off the orange.

Using purple:
Attach yarn to one of the edges and ch 1.
(Row 4) (Sc two in the top of each bobble) across, you should be skipping each ch st as you go. Ch 1 and turn.
(Row 5) Hdc in each st across.
Fasten off the purple.

Using yellow:
Attach yarn the edge where you fastened off the purple and ch 1.
(Row 6) Sc in each st across.
Fasten off the yellow.

Using off-white:
Attach yarn to the same edge that you attached the yellow and ch 2. This is the only row where the ch 2 at the beginning of the row counts as a st.
(Row 7) Dc in the same st as joining, and ch 1. (Skip the next st, and dc 2 in the next st) across.
Fasten off the off-white.

Using purple:
Attach the yarn to the same edge that you attached the off-white and ch 1.
(Row 8) Sc in each st across.
Fasten off the purple.

Using red:
Attach the yarn to the same edge that you attached the purple and ch 1.
(Row 9) Hdc in each st across.
Fasten off the red.

Using yellow:
Attach the yarn to the same edge that you attached the red and ch 2.
(Row 10) Bobble the first st. (Ch 1, skip the next st and bobble in the next) across. Try to keep the chains loose, so that the next row is easier. If you end the row with only one st left (so there isn't enough space to skip a st, and then bobble) then just ch 1 and then bobble in the last st.
Fasten off the yellow.

Using orange:
Attach the yarn to the same edge that you attached the yellow and ch 1.
(Row 11) Sc at the top of each bobble and in each ch across.
Fasten off the orange.

Using purple:
Attach the yarn to the same edge that you attached the orange and ch 1.
(Row 12) Hdc in each st across.
Fasten off the purple.

Using red:
Attach the yarn to the same edge that you attached the purple and ch 1.
(Row 13) Sc in each st across.
Fasten off the red.

Weave in all ends, and you're finished the main part of the scarf!

For the ends of the scarf:
Using black:
(Row 1) Ch 1, and sc across.
(Row 2) Ch 1, and hdc across.
Fasten off the black.
Attach the fringe into each of the hdc.
Repeat for the other end of the scarf.

Now the scarf is done!

Cheery Cabled Headband

Cheery Cabled Headband This headband is an intermediate-level knit project. You should be able to knit, purl and make cables, either with a cable needle or without, before starting. I prefer to make cables without the cable needle, since I find it tends to get in the way, but the pattern is written as if you were using one. The final headband has a width of about 8 cm (3 1/4 inches) and a diameter of 23 cm (9 inches). This headband is designed to fit an average adult, and please make sure you check your gauge before you start to make sure that it fits properly once you're finished. If you want to change the size of the headband, just add or take away rows from the non-cabled section. You will need: 30 g worsted weight yarn 4 mm knitting needles Cable needle Yarn needle Abbreviations: K - knit P - purl Cn - cable needle C3L - Cable three left - Move the next two sts to the cn and hold in front. P1, then K2 from the cn C3R - Cable three right - Move
